About Karen Mayer
Hi, my name is Karen Mayer and I'm a licensed massage practitioner and the
owner of Massage of Boulder Creek.
I moved to Boulder Creek 13 years ago and one day it dawned on me that
my goals and ideals in life had shifted it was time for a personal connection with my community. So I "retired" after 23 years as a Project Manager in corporate telecommunications, focusing on making my passion of people and bodywork my new profession.
I became a hatha yoga instructor and taught here at our spiritual center, Ananda Yoga & Meditation, where I also opened and managed our new age retail store, therefore creating a new chapter in my life. As a devotee of massage, receiving bi-weekly when I was in the corporate arena, I realized the benefits of bodywork and saw another way to incorporate the movement of yoga with physical manipulation of muscles and began my journey into massage.
I received my foundational training at Twin Lakes College for the
Healing Arts in Santa Cruz and received my certification in 2003. My further
education includes Table Shiatsu with Acupressure, Swedish, Deep Tissue,
Pre-Natal, Neuromuscular Facilitation, Chair and some Lymphatic
drainage massage. I worked in two chiropractic offices upon completing my training
so am knowledgeable of soft tissue manipulation using passive
stretches, interactive Neuromuscular techniques and applied pressure to relieve
pain, and the benefits that occur with structural integration.
Initially I shared this sacred space overlooking the creek with my
friend and Ayurvedic practitioner, but my private practice blossomed, and I
was no longer able to meet the communities healing needs personally so I
expanded and remodeled the space and called upon other gifted
therapists to form Massage of Boulder Creek in 2005. I'm a member of the San Lorenzo Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Boulder Creek Business Association, and the International Massage Association.
I feel blessed to work with some of the best and most experienced
massage practitioners in the valley, each adding a new technique to the
variety of offerings we have to accommodate all of your healing needs. We look
forward to serving you!
Namaste,
Karen |
